Lime Treatment
Is it crucial to add lime on to the lawn?
Lime is very important mainly because it increases soil pH in the lawn. The better the pH, the more healthy the grass looks.
The pH may decrease because of the excessive level of nitrogen based fertilizers which are applied for color throughout every season. A preferred pH level in this area of the country is 6.0 to 7.0. The greater the pH, the larger the amount of fertilizer applied to your yard. What this means is a greener and more healthy grass.
The optimum time to lime is towards end of the season: November and December. The reason being it often takes 2 to 3 months for the solution to wash into the ground. This allows it to be used for the approaching growing season.
Soil pH has to be right to gain optimum turf development. Soil pH can be determined by an annual soil test.
