Aeration is achieved by using a machine designed with cylinder-like tines made to penetrate and chatter the ground. Cores of thatch, soil and lawn are in fact picked up of the ground throughout this process. The crushing action of the tines open the ground and permits the grass to breathe and supply better usage of fertilization. Air and water encourages a deeper and much healthier root system. Good roots are exactly what developing a good lawn is about. Methods of soil aeration in many cases are known as soil cultivating.
